			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We want to take this opportunity to introduce you to some of the pioneers of nutrition.  One such remarkable individual was Melvin Page, DDS, born in Picture Rocks, Pennsylvania in 1894.  He was the son of a physician and one of the early pioneers in nutritional biochemistry.  He began his career as a school teacher, but decided early on to return to school and obtain his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.  Dr. Page then embarked on a successful dental practice spanning the next 60 years both in Michigan, then later in Florida.  Early in his practice he became aware that it was often necessary to remake dentures for many of his patients within a relatively short period of time due to their jaw bones resorbing under the dentures and bridges.  In a quest to learn why the mouths of his patients detiorated, Dr. Page ran thousands of blood tests at local hospitals and discovered that no bone absorption occurred (and no cavities) when the calcium to phosphorus ratio was 10 to 4 in the blood.  This basic research uncovered the knowledge that white sugar and refined carbohydrates increases serum calcium, due to increased calcium withdrawal from the bones, thereby weakening them.  For daring to suggest that patients should change their eating habits and eliminate white sugar and white flour from their diet he was ostracized by his professional colleagues.  This caused him to terminate his hospital research and relocate his practice to Florida.<br />
In the early 1960’s Dr. Page found himself indicted for practicing outside his scope of practice.  After a lengthy trial in which he produced over 3600 case studies and 40,000 blood tests substantiating over 35 years of research into nutrition, a federal judge found him not guilty and went on to reprimand the AMA for not trying to work with him rather than harass him.  Dr. Page’s career was a long and distinguished one in which he persevered in the face of tremendous adversity and criticism by both the dental and medical professions as well as the press.<br />
Dr. Page’s treatment was simple and logical:<br />
   1.  White sugar and refined carbohydrates are harmful.<br />
   2.  Chemical additives and food preservatives upset body chemistry.<br />
   3.  Milk is not the perfect food for everyone.<br />
   4.  Using whole food vitamins, minerals and digestive enzymes to supplement daily food intake might be necessary.</p>
<p>Hard to believe that was almost a hundred years ago! But he was right then and he is still right today. Melvin Page DDS, Westin Price DDS, Royal Lee DDS, and several others are what is generally known as the forefathers of modern clinical nutrition. It&#8217;s hard to believe how many patients I see that still believe the egg yolk is bad and only consume egg whites. There is very little research to substantiate the ASSumption that too many eggs or egg yolks raises cholesterol levels and there is growing research to support just the opposite. The traditional med-think goes something like this: Cholesterol is bad, eggs are high in cholesterol, therefore they are bad for you. Fortunately, things don&#8217;t operate that way in the body. Eggs are also high in things like lecithin which is a fat emulsifier. We need cholesterol for hormone synthesis &#8211; especially if you&#8217;re a female! Your needs are higher. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We Americans have lived through many threats that had the potential to wipe out our nation or even our species. Once again we find ourselves in such a predicament. Is it from a renegade meteorite that threatens a cataclysmic ice age as dust covers our planet? Could it possibly be from nuclear holocaust? We’ve watched recently as the ground shifted under the very feet of the Japanese people and many believed the entire island chain would submerge. We saw Hiroshima and Nagasaki decimated by nuclear bombs. Many of you remember the Cuban missile crisis. Well it’s none of these more obvious threats. According to Jeffrey Smith, the threat we face now is from the very foods we are consuming! I just attended a seminar the first week of August where he spoke on Genetically Modified Organisms and their effect on our health. He is the foremost authority on this subject. He affirmed a lot of the things I had supposed. Following are just a few of the things I learned.</p>
<p>Since 1996 Americans have been eating <em>genetically modified</em> (GM) foods. GM plants, such as soybean, corn, cottonseed, and canola, have had foreign genes forced into their DNA. The inserted genes come from species such as bacteria and viruses, which have never been in the human food supply. The American Academy of Environmental Medicine states, “Several animal studies indicate serious health risks associated with GM food,” including infertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, faulty insulin regulation, and changes in major organs and the gastrointestinal system. They ask physicians to advise patients to avoid GM food. There are 8 GM food crops to be aware of. They are; <strong>soy, corn, canola, cotton, sugar beets, Hawaiian</strong> <strong>papaya, zucchini</strong>, and <strong>yellow crookneck squash</strong>.</p>
<p>We have the ability as a people, as consumers, to stop GM foods in this country by voting with our dollars. The Monsanto Corporation told Andersen Consulting (the same company that consulted Enron) that their goal was to have no seeds in the world that they did not produce within ten years. They wanted a monopoly on all food! This is the same chemical company that told us agent orange was safe!! Their tampering with the genetic code of our food may be irreversible in nature and in the effects this may have had on our genome, our very genetic pool as a species. In the meantime, start asking about the foods you buy and begin avoiding GM foods, especially for your children’s sake. The evidence is overwhelmingly against these foods and hopefully GMs will go the way they did in 1999 in Europe – wiped from the shelves by popular demand and outlawed!</p>

<p>Begin lying on your back.<br />
Extend arms above head flat on floor.<br />
Activate core and lift knees above hips and maintain a 90/90 hip and knee position.<br />
Activate core.<br />
Lift one arm off the floor and raise it towards ceiling until above shoulder level while simultaneously extending one leg downward towards floor.<br />
Pause momentarily.<br />
Return to start position, alternating sides.<br />
Core activation should be maintained throughout entire exercise.<br />
Repeat for recommended repetitions and sets.</p>
